A modular SOUTH AFRICA tour by Tongasabi: Kruger Park, the best of Mpumalanga and Kwazulu Natal. A wildlife and culture orientated tour taking you to the quieter parts of these sought after and  popular destinations! Optional extensions Cape Town and Mozambique.

Game drives and walks with rangers as well as a bit of cultutral heritage make for a well bablanced itinerary which keeps long driving days to a minimum.

Safari Itinerary:

Day 1: Hazyview
Early morning departure from Johannesburg B&B at 07h00. Stop in Dullstroom at the Birds of Prey Rehabilation Centre  which includes, Eagles, Falcons, Owls and Vultures. Own expense lunch further en route near Lydenburg. we drive over Longtom Pass then we drop down into the lowveld towards our first stop in Hazyview. Hazyview nestles along the Sabie river, during the 1950's, the Sabie River's strong currents and numerous crocodiles earned her the nickname "ULUSABA", meaning river of fear.  Gold-diggers camping on her banks were often taken by crocodiles or drowned in her waters! Day 2: Blyde River & Moholoholo

Enjoy early morning breakfast followed by a full day Panoramic route tour starting with Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, a haven for abandoned, injured or poisoned wildlife.  Undertake a 2 hr tour of the centre followed by a midday boat trip from Swadini on Blyde Poort Dam with specialist guide of the Fauna and Flora of the area.  ** Boat trip may be cancelled if VERY windy. Visit the famous Blyde River Canyon from one of South Africa's most famous viewpoints, before returning to Hazyview. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast, lunch & diner included.

Day 3: Kruger Park

A leisurely breakfast before entering the famous Kruger National Park, game drive to our restcamp. The Kruger National Park was formed in 1926, when Sabie Game Reserve, Shingwedzi Game Reserve and a number of neighboring farms combined. It was officially open to the public in 1927. Relax around camp for lunch and during the heat of the day before we leaving on a sunset game drive. Return to a Traditional braai under the stars prepared by your guide. Game drive in open game viewer. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast & diner included, lunch not included.

Day 4: Kruger Park
Early morning game walk with an armed SANP Ranger into Big 5 territory, Return to camp for brunch prepared by your guide and then afternoon game drive in open game viewer.

Day 5: Kruger Park
Full day game drive in open game viewer.
Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast & diner included, lunch not included.

Day 6: Swaziland
Onwards to the Kingdom of Swaziland where we overnight in en - suite Meru tents. We will stop en-route at one of the local markets to purchase Swazi curios. Afternoon walk to waterfall before having dinner. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast & diner included, lunch not included.

Day 7: St. Lucia
Leaving the Mountain Kingdom of the Swazi's we head into a different biome along the KwaZulu Natal coastal belt. Our log cabins overlooking the Indian Ocean are nestled at the base of the forest dunes right on the beach. Located in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, there is alot wildlife on our doorstep including Hippo, Crocodile and over 200 bird species. Enjoy afternoon walk along the estuary bank. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast, lunch & diner included.

Day 8: St. Lucia
Short drive to St Lucia and a boat trip along the estuary where many Crocodile and hippo can be seen, not to mention the superb bird life in the area. From here we head for our wild camp in Umfolozi. It is not uncommon to have wild animals roam around the chalets, especially at night. Afternoon game drive in Umfolozi Game Reserve. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast & diner included, lunch not included.

Day 9 Umfolozi
Lazy departure inland to Shaka's old hunting ground. A short drive to Umfolozi Game Reserve. Check in and then an afternoon game drive in tour vehicle. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast, lunch & diner included.

Day 10: Umfolozi

A morning game walk with armed ranger, then return to camp for brunch and midday time at leisure. Afternoon game drive in search of dangerous Black Rhino! Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast, lunch & diner included.

Day 11: Drakensberg Mountains

Early departure for Drakensberg Mountains after breakfast. Stop en route to see many superb views of the Natal Midlands. Our lodge is located high up in the Northern Berg with unsurpassed views. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast & diner included, lunch not included.

Day 12: Drakensberg Mountains
Walk one of the spectacular day hikes this part of the Drakensberg has to offer. Hike to one of the caves in the area that have Bushmen paintings in them. Return to base for last evening around warm fire, enjoying hot chocolate and a delicious dinner. Accommodation: chalet/lodge. Meals included: breakfast, lunch & diner included.

Day 13: Johannesburg
Morning departure after breakfast, back to Johannesburg. Tour ends mid afternoon. Drop off at O.R Tambo International airport. Breakfast include, lunch & diner not included.

Extending your safari:

This safari can be extended in Cape Town or the wine lands surrounding Stellenbosch. Fly-in packages to Mozambique. Please contact us for more information.
